Casual Weekend Wear

My inlaws were in town this weekend. We had a lot of fun relaxing. Friday night we went to dinner near by and just caught up. Saturday we played at the local park with the Bug and then the Hubs and I went on a date without the baby – dinner and a movie. The grandparents watched the baby and loved it! Sunday after church, we went to Co Co Sala for brunch. The chocolate was amazing and i cannot wait to go back with girlfriends. Today I had doctor’s appointments and errands to run after the inlaws left for Ohio.

Here is a roundup of weekend outfits. I wore one other one – but the Bug got it very dirty and not picture worthy.

FRIDAY Night

Sweater – Target, Flannel – Target, Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Shoes – Target

It was a long week and it was nice to change into something very comfortable for dinner at the local diner.

SATURDAY at the Park

Shirt – Old Navy, Sweater – TJ Maxx, Necklace – New York and Company, Gray Tank – Target, Jeans – Old Navy, Socks – Target, Boots – Steve Madden via DSW

This was my park and date night outfit. Pretty casual – but we really just ate dinner at the mall and then went to a movie.

Sunday Brunch

Shirt and Cardi – New York and Company, Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Necklace – gift from MIL, Glasses – Calvin Klein (these are my old glasses… I can’t wait for my new ones to come in), Shoes – Candies via Kohls.

Monday Errands

Tank – Target, Cardi – New York and Company, Jewelry – Target, Jeans – Old Navy, Socks – Target, Boots – Steve Madden via DSW, Belt – New York and Company

I am so excited that the Hubs and I did a little bit of shopping when we were out running errands. I have some BOLD outfits coming this week.

The detail shots are always fun to put together. You may have noticed that some pieces I wore over and over again. That happens on the weekends. I like to remix multiple days in a row. I also think that leopard should be considered a neutral. What do you think?

I also found out that I can make my hair wavy. Naturally my hair is very straight -so to have a little waves is very exciting to me. What do you think? Do you like the waves?

***on a side note – I took all of these pictures this morning due to the fact that we were super busy and my daughter was loving her snack in the highchair***

Find It Friday {Week 2}

Yay for Find it Friday!

Find it Friday is when you FIND something in your closet that you haven’t worn in a long time and wear it on FRIDAY. Then you make up your mind if it still should belong in that closet of yours.

Who wants to guess which item I “found” today?

Heart Day

Valentine’s Day is such a fun day. I love pink and red… today I went for pink and red together!

Shirt – New York and Company, Skirt – Talbots Outlet, Belt – TJ Maxx, Necklace – Express, Tights – New York and Company, Boots – Chinese Laundry via DSW, Watch – DKNY via TJ Maxx

COLOR BLOCKING ROCKS!!!

I have been very inspired by this picture from pinterest!

I need to try this red and pink colorblocking soon

I still want those pants. But I thought that I did a good job with the colors.

I really loved this outfit, except that my bottom button on my skirt popped off while getting the baby in the car this morning and I felt like it made the skirt slightly inappropriate for work. I managed though.  I also threw in rose lace tights because hey – it is Valentine’s day and you should celebrate with roses.

Today I also am participating in TWO challenges… I love when things collide like that.

Check out both sites and see how others rocked it today!!

I like my lipstick today. 🙂

Simplicity

So my bosses are on a retreat for three days this week. That means that I can dress a little more casually. I went with a simple outfit of black/gray with pops of red.

Turtleneck – KMart, Scarf – (belongs to the Hubs – but I have been wearing it a lot lately), Belt – TJ Maxx, Pants – Eddie Bauer, Shoes – Liz Claiborne via TJ Maxx

I love how monochromatic this feels even though I brought in the bright pops of red. The layers played well together. I didn’t get these pants hemmed because with 90% of my shoes they are the perfect length. My knee has been acting up though, so I went with a shorter heel. I was comfortable and didn’t step on my pants today, but this picture makes it look like I could be stepping on my hems. Oh well. 🙂

This week is going to start out slow and end really busy. I am not sure how I feel about that – but I rested up this weekend.

A closer look at the details.

It felt a little weird to pick whatever I wanted out of the closet this morning. I really enjoyed the challenge from the last two weeks. Anyone else missing the prompts as they got dressed today?

Also – what do you think of the detail shots – should I keep doing them?

See you all tomorrow! Thanks again for reading and commenting – it has been great to be a part of this community.

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 8 – Dress Up a Coat}

We are on the home stretch now. Only 2 more days of the challenge.

Today we were challenged to dress up a coat. I have a nice trench coat that already has some fun details, but I decided to go ahead and add to them. It made sense because it was also raining this morning. It has been such spring weather around here lately.

Coat – New York and Company, Flowers – New York and Company, Necklace & Earrings – The Limited

I went with the green flowers because I liked how they were so close to my orangy-pink necklace. I thought of it as channeling flowers and stems, but reversing the colors.

Shirt – New York and Company, Scarf – gift from my Mom, Skirt – Express, Tights – Target, Shoes – LAMB via TJ Maxx

I was inspired by my Work It Wednesday post and put together the work look – only with my own pieces.

LAMB at work
I really loved how these shoes looked today. I also liked the addition of the scarf as a belt. It added some color and interest. It also inspired me to wear my beaded statement necklace. What do you think? How did the look turn out?

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 7 – Bright Colors}

Going strong and completed the 7th day of the 10 day challenge!

Today’s prompt was bright colors. I was super excited because although I have been mixing in some pops of color here and there I have stuck to mostly grays and blacks throughout this challenge. I also did an all tan/cream monochrome outfit.  So I have been craving color.

Shirt – New York and Company, Skirt – The Limited, Tights – New York and Company, Shoes – Nine West via TJ Maxx, Earrings – Made by Me, Watch – New York and Company

The hubs took several pictures tonight, but this one captured the color and details of my shirt the best, so even though the lighting on my face isn’t the best, I went with it. I can’t wait for the sun to stay out longer.  The weather has been so nice lately. I mean it was 65 out today. That is INSANE! I am not sure how I might be able to do tomorrow’s challenge – as it will be in the 60s again and that is not coat weather for me.

I love everything about this shirt though. I love how it fits, the fun bow, the pattern, and the feel. It is such a great piece, I can’t wait to wear it in more ways. I also love how wearing the same color tights and shoes make me look taller. It makes me smile. I love these earrings too. I made a necklace that matches, but it broke a while ago and I haven’t gotten around to fixing it. I will do that soon. Because while this outfit didn’t need a necklace. I think that it would have looked nice. I should also make some more jewelry in general. It is fun and a great way to get one of a kind pieces. I think that the next thing I make is a nice statement necklace. I will have to go bead shopping soon! Have any of you attempted to make your own jewelry? Have any good tips?

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 6 – Decade or Region}

Well I am back with the Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge.  Kayla at Freckles in April is doing such a great job coming up with prompts for this challenge. Today, she challenged us to dress from a decade or region. Can you guess which I picked?

Sweater – Strand via TJ Maxx, Necklace – The Limited, Belt – Fossil via TJ Maxx, Skirt – Express, Watch – DKNY via TJ Maxx, Tights – New York and Company, Shoes – Simply Vera via Kohls

Well I attempted late 50’s early 60’s office fashion. AKA anything that reminded me of Mad Men.  I used these photos {retrieved from google images} as I was putting together my outfit last night.

Joan – I want to be you someday!

Peggy – I love when you kick it up a notch and dress really well!

And then this came from the inspiration post.

Overall, I am pleased with my outfit. I even put my hair up in a bun. Not the best bun, but I tried to be Joan-esque.

I also really liked how the raspberry tights played off of the pink belt.

Come check out the rest of my challenge friends below!

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 5 – Pattern Mixing}

For today’s challenge, we were asked to do some pattern mixing.

I started experimenting with pattern mixing in December of 2009. (How do I remember that exactly?? That is when I had my other blog that I deleted – some people may remember me as from sneakers to stilettos.) I liked today’s challenge though because I have never mixed patterns in this dressed up of an outfit.

Dress & Belt – Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx, Cardi – New York and Company, Tights – Kohls, Shoes – Simply Vera via Kohls, Necklace and Earrings – via Eastern Market

I actually had thought about switching prompts with yesterday but then I thought it would be more of a challenge to keep the prompts the way they were. Also one of my new bosses had this awesome pattern mixing outfit on earlier this week that inspired me for today. She wore a nice black and gray striped shirt under a black leather blazer with the same colored gray and black large print houndstooth pencil skirt. She then wore black tights and pumps. It was such a chic outfit and I thought, that I might be able to pull something off too.

So I went with this new dress. I love the varying stripes of gray, black, and white. I then added these black argyle tights. I knew that I wanted a little something else to add to the mix and added the large flower statement necklace.I decided not to add a pop of color, but keep everything else basic black so that the pattern mixing was the highlight.

Check out my other fellow pattern mixing friends below!

And for fun – Here is my daughter happy that her momma is home from work!

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 4 – Channel Someone}

Today’s posting is brought to you by Kate Middleton. I am not really a royalty follower, but I am not gonna lie – she is one stylish woman. I have deep envy an admiration for women that can do casual so effortlessly and chic at the same time.

So here is my best shot at casual chic:

Black Sweater – Strand via TJ Maxx, Tank Top – Target,  Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Shoes – Target, Blazer – New York and Company, Scarf – belongs to the hubs

Here is my inspiration photo

**Source unknown**

I think that I did ok with this interpretation. I had my hair down this morning and that didn’t last. I do think that Kate does the simple pony tail well though. I also thought that the touches of tweed and plaid were very English feeling – so I went with it.

I think that this neckline works for me too! I like how flattering the sweater is.

Today was a very rare occasion when I was able to wear jeans to work. I originally was going to channel Joan Holloway, but found out that I could wear jeans and switched it up.

Check out my friends below that are also channeling others.

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 1 – Layers}

For the next two weeks I will be participating in the Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge hosted by Freckles in April.

Today’s Challenge – Layers

{Day 1}

Dress – no brand via TJ Maxx, Sweater – Kohls, Belt – New York and Company, Necklace and Earrings – New York and Company, Gray Tights – New York and Company, Black Lace Tights – New York and Company – Gray Flats – New York and Company, Blazer – New York and Company

Today I decided to layer in a more conventional way and in a more unique way. I layered my dress with a sweater and then a blazer. I wear layers with sweaters a lot and this year have discovered a love for wearing a blazer over an already layered sweater. This allowed me two things by doing this. One – I love the neckline of this dress. It has a nice detail and stays put, so I am covered without adjusting all day. Two – I stayed super warm because man was it cold out this morning. Next I went in a more unique direction and layered my tights. I also did this for two reasons. One – double tights mean LOTS of warmth, way warmer than pants would have kept me today. Two – it makes the black lace way more work appropriate. I through on a statement necklace and a waist defining belt for when I wasn’t covered up with my blazer and went out the door.

I was totally bummed this morning though. My husband works for the government and here in the DC area – they had a weather delay called last night. The delay was until 11am. I was very jealous when my alarm went off at 5:45 this morning that he didn’t have to get up until who knows when. Oh well – I got lots of work done before he even got to work today.

Don’t forget to go and check out the rest of the bloggers and their layers today too!
