#StyleMeMarch: Bought on Sale

Today’s challenge was to wear something that was purchased on sale. Well, 75% of my closet would be categorized by sale/coupon shopping and then another 22% would fall under very affordable to begin with. The last 3% would be labeled as WORTH IT!

Shirt РNew York and Company (BOGO 50% plus 50% off coupon), Jeans РOld Navy Р50%, Necklace Рgift from MIL, Earrings Рpurchased in Maine  , Shoes РTarget

I am trying to push myself into wearing things that I haven’t worn in the past. I don’t really wear my skinny jeans without boots. I think that I have worn them like this twice (including today). I do this because I am not sure that my body has the right proportions for skinny jeans without boots, plus I am short – so the material bunches at my ankles. I also don’t wear flats very often. I also don’t wear flowy tops with out tucking them in or wearing a structured cardigan or blazer over top. I really liked the vibe of this outfit though.

The Hubs said it wasn’t his favorite outfit… and that is ok. I know that he doesn’t really like skinny jeans or shapeless shirts (as he calls them) so combining them was never going to win him over. ūüôā I really like the simplicity of the colors with the interest coming from my leopard shoes and teal earrings.

Today, we went over to our friends’ house and had brunch. It was great to catch up and hang out. The food/ cocktails were also amazing!

Excited about rocking some bold lipstick tomorrow.

#StyleMeMarch – Parisian Inspired

Today’s inspiration in the Style Me March challenge was to wear something Parisian inspired.

The first thing that I thought about was wearing black and white stripes. I also have been wanting to try to do this to my hair.

I got my hair done today and my bangs are a little shorter than I would like but I still thought that I would be able to pull this off. In the mirror, I thought that I did ok. I am not so sure that it translated well in pictures.

Stripe Shirt – The Limited, Cardigan – Kohls, Belt and Necklace – Express, Jeans – Banana Republic, Shoes – Payless

I think that my hair is actually very distracting in these pictures, but I do really like how the pattern mixing turned out. I was staring in my closet for a long time trying to think about what else to pair with the stripes and saw this cardi. I love the large damask and the damask also seems very french to me – so I went with it. I didn’t feel like myself and was a little uncomfortable when I was leaving the house, but I think that really had to do with my hair than with the outfit.

We went to a friend’s house tonight for game night. I was in charge of desserts. This is what I brought!

**all made from scratch**

I am looking forward to tomorrow’s challenge.

The Best Laid Plans

Do not always come to be.

I didn’t post yesterday because I basically wore a mix of these two outfits.

I wore the suit and the polka dot shirt. I also wore the polka dot tights and black shoes.

I didn’t show it off because I also worked late last night and was very tired when I got home.

I had planned to wear something different today, but was very tired when I woke up and just went with something easy.

Sweater – TJ Maxx, Shirt & Shoes – New York and Company, Pants – Express, Jewelry – The Limited

Two things that I have learned from this outfit. I need to remember to always iron in the crease of these pants. I also need to wear these pants with at least a little bit of a heel.

I am not sure that this outfit translates as well in pictures as it did in person… but I am going with it. What I do really love is this sweater and statement necklace. I don’t know that I love the button-up under it, but I do love the necklace with this.

What do you wear when you are super tired and need to be put together?

Casual Weekend Wear

My inlaws were in town this weekend. We had a lot of fun relaxing. Friday night we went to dinner near by and just caught up. Saturday we played at the local park with the Bug and then the Hubs and I went on a date without the baby – dinner and a movie. The grandparents watched the baby and loved it! Sunday after church, we went to Co Co Sala for brunch. The chocolate was amazing and i cannot wait to go back with girlfriends. Today I had doctor’s appointments and errands to run after the inlaws left for Ohio.

Here is a roundup of weekend outfits. I wore one other one – but the Bug got it very dirty and not picture worthy.

FRIDAY Night

Sweater – Target, Flannel – Target, Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Shoes – Target

It was a long week and it was nice to change into something very comfortable for dinner at the local diner.

SATURDAY at the Park

Shirt – Old Navy, Sweater – TJ Maxx, Necklace – New York and Company, Gray Tank – Target, Jeans – Old Navy, Socks – Target, Boots – Steve Madden via DSW

This was my park and date night outfit. Pretty casual – but we really just ate dinner at the mall and then went to a movie.

Sunday Brunch

Shirt and Cardi – New York and Company, Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Necklace – gift from MIL, Glasses – Calvin Klein (these are my old glasses… I can’t wait for my new ones to come in), Shoes – Candies via Kohls.

Monday Errands

Tank – Target, Cardi – New York and Company, Jewelry – Target, Jeans – Old Navy, Socks – Target, Boots – Steve Madden via DSW, Belt – New York and Company

I am so excited that the Hubs and I did a little bit of shopping when we were out running errands. I have some BOLD outfits coming this week.

The detail shots are always fun to put together. You may have noticed that some pieces I wore over and over again. That happens on the weekends. I like to remix multiple days in a row. I also think that leopard should be considered a neutral. What do you think?

I also found out that I can make my hair wavy. Naturally my hair is very straight -so to have a little waves is very exciting to me. What do you think? Do you like the waves?

***on a side note – I took all of these pictures this morning due to the fact that we were super busy and my daughter was loving her snack in the highchair***

Find it Friday { Week 1 }

Today I bring you my first Find it Friday!

What is Find it Friday? Well it is when you FIND something in your closet that you haven’t worn in a long time and wear it on FRIDAY. Then you make up your mind if it still should belong in that closet of yours. If you ever want to join me – let me know and if I get enough interest, I will teach myself how to have a link party and link you all in. ūüôā

Cardi – New York and Company, Gray Shirt – Target, Skirt – Express, Belt – New York and Company, Tights – Kohls, Shoes – New York and Company, Jewelry – Target

So the item that I FOUND is this skirt. It is a mix of menswear and girly ruffles. I really liked it at the time, but I am not sure {after over 4 years of not wearing it} that the proportions are right for my body. I also feel weird with the ruffles, like they are too girly for me. I also think that it is weird that I would find something to be too girly for me. I mean I LOVE pink, and skirts, and shoes, and girly things in general. I don’t know if it is the combination of the ruffles and pinstripes or just the proportions, but I am not sold on it. I didn’t wear heels today, so that could have contributed to my uncertainty as well.

What do you think? Should it stay or should it find a new home?

I am thinking about keeping the skirt for another month and if I wear it again – it will stay. If I don’t, then off it goes to find another owner that will rock it!

Challenge: 1 Shirt, 7 Days {D3}

So, I started this challenge quite a while ago. I have been slacking. I have had a lot going on in my life. Ok – I have been slacking.

Day 1 – Tuesday’s Look

Day 2 – Friday’s Look

Today I bring you Day 3 – Sunday’s look. I actually wore this yesterday {Tuesday} but started feeling sick last night. I didn’t go to work today and I know that you don’t really want to see me in my pjs.

Inspiration Photo

You may have noticed that I went with a much looser inpretation this time. I felt like the bright skirt and flower conveyed the feeling of this look really well. What do you think? Can you see the inspiration?

I also got my eyebrows waxed yesterday. It is my most favorite/neccessary beauty routine. What about you? What do you absolutely love/ need having done?

PS – Pedicures are a close second.

Check out those perfectly groomed eyebrows.

Don’t mind the fact¬†that I look super tired here. It was a long day at work and ¬†was starting to not feel well at all.

Also – don’t you love the little splash of pattern mixing?

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 1 – Layers}

For the next two weeks I will be participating in the Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge hosted by Freckles in April.

Today’s Challenge – Layers

{Day 1}

Dress – no brand via TJ Maxx, Sweater – Kohls, Belt – New York and Company, Necklace and Earrings – New York and Company, Gray Tights – New York and Company, Black Lace Tights – New York and Company – Gray Flats – New York and Company, Blazer – New York and Company

Today I decided to layer in a more conventional way and in a more unique way. I layered my dress with a sweater and then a blazer. I wear layers with sweaters a lot and this year have discovered a love for wearing a blazer over an already layered sweater. This allowed me two things by doing this. One – I love the neckline of this dress. It has a nice detail and stays put, so I am covered without adjusting all day. Two – I stayed super warm because man was it cold out this morning. Next I went in a more unique direction and layered my tights. I also did this for two reasons. One – double tights mean LOTS of warmth, way warmer than pants would have kept me today. Two – it makes the black lace way more work appropriate. I through on a statement necklace and a waist defining belt for when I wasn’t covered up with my blazer and went out the door.

I was totally bummed this morning though. My husband works for the government and here in the DC area – they had a weather delay called last night. The delay was until 11am. I was very jealous when my alarm went off at 5:45 this morning that he didn’t have to get up until who knows when. Oh well – I got lots of work done before he even got to work today.

Don’t forget to go and check out the rest of the bloggers and their layers today too!

My Weekend Uniform

Like so many people that I know, I have a weekend uniform. In the winter, my weekend go to outfit is jeans, boots, a sweater, and a scarf. So here is a very neutral version of my uniform.

Black turtleneck – KMart, Black Sweater – Kohls, Belt – American Eagle circa 1999, Jeans – Old Navy, Boots – Steve Madden, Scarf – the Hubs

It is getting cold out there, so I added an extra layer today, but I really wanted to just be wearing a simple black sweater turtleneck. I don’t have one, so I made a faux one out of a turtleneck and a v-neck sweater.

Sorry, my belly is showing. I pulled up my sweater a little to see my belt. Oh well!!!

Today we went carpet shopping. We also stopped by Home Goods because we are trying to finish my crafting/girl space in our finished attic. I was looking for lamps. I found two GREAT ones. And I also found the chair that will be the color inspiration for my room. The hubs got it for me for my birthday. I can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow!

{These are cell phone pictures, so excuse the quality}

Easy

This outfit is so easy. I bet if I were to take it to dinner, I wouldn’t even need to spring for an expensive bottle of wine. Wait, you don’t take outfits to dinner. Hmmm….

Sweatshirt Cardigan РEddie Bauer, Cami РNew York and Company, Necklace and Earrings РNew York and Company, Belt РNew York and Company, Skirt РNew York and Company, Tights РNew York  and Company, Boots РSteve Madden

I am feeling frazzled. I am embracing this feeling, because I think as anyone is transitioning jobs they can feel frazzled. Today I need to be in meetings and do the physical job of moving things – that is how I ended up with this easy, comfortable, chic {in my opinion} outfit. It works. I like that it works. It is all neutrals. I like that too.
