#StyleMeMarch: LBD to Work

Yet another great prompt for day!

Today we were prompted to wear a LBD to work. I thought that I went pretty basic with doing this, and I got TONS of compliments today on my outfit and hair. It must have seemed special to my colleagues.

Cardi – New York and Company, Dress – New York and Company, Cami – New York and Company, Belt – New York and Company, Tights – Target, Jewelry – Kohls, Boots – Chinese Laundry via DSW

I really liked how the outfit turned out. The subtle pattern mixing of the tights and the cami add just the right amount of interest. 🙂

I have a confession to make about this outfit. I altered it to work for the camisole and for work. This is a picture of how the dress looks un-altered.

(Click on the picture for source)

I love the dramatic neckline of this dress and it just didn’t work for this outfit today, so I pinned the points back and made it a v-neck.

I tried something new with my hair again today too!. I should have taken pictures this morning, when it was still in place – after a 12 hour work day, it was starting to fall apart. Overall, I liked the effect. I am finally starting to get used to the shortness of my bangs. Speaking of hair… I am pretty scared about tomorrow’s prompt. We are supposed to tease our hair. Wish me luck!

#StyleMeMarch: Bold Lipstick and catching up Day 1 – Favorite Color

I am really loving the Style Me March Challenge. It is giving me some guidelines while making it really easy to also infuse my own style!

Today’s prompt was bold lipstick. Since I was a few days late to this game… I also wanted to catch-up so Day 1 was your favorite color. I was able to do both today! (small victories are important!)

Shirt – Express, Pants – Express, Belt – Express, Necklace – New York and Company, Shoes – Simply Vera via Kohls

Since I have been experimenting with bold lipstick the last few weeks, I am not sure that this seems as bold as it would have to me a month ago. I do like how the more pink tone of the lipstick pairs with the kelly green pants. I think red would have been too much for me. I also LOVE these pants. Green is my favorite color and this shade of green is FANTASTIC!!! I think that these pants were made just for me!!!

Who else is participating in the Style Me March challenge?

#StyleMeMarch – Parisian Inspired

Today’s inspiration in the Style Me March challenge was to wear something Parisian inspired.

The first thing that I thought about was wearing black and white stripes. I also have been wanting to try to do this to my hair.

I got my hair done today and my bangs are a little shorter than I would like but I still thought that I would be able to pull this off. In the mirror, I thought that I did ok. I am not so sure that it translated well in pictures.

Stripe Shirt – The Limited, Cardigan – Kohls, Belt and Necklace – Express, Jeans – Banana Republic, Shoes – Payless

I think that my hair is actually very distracting in these pictures, but I do really like how the pattern mixing turned out. I was staring in my closet for a long time trying to think about what else to pair with the stripes and saw this cardi. I love the large damask and the damask also seems very french to me – so I went with it. I didn’t feel like myself and was a little uncomfortable when I was leaving the house, but I think that really had to do with my hair than with the outfit.

We went to a friend’s house tonight for game night. I was in charge of desserts. This is what I brought!

**all made from scratch**

I am looking forward to tomorrow’s challenge.

Stalking and Professional Brights

So back at the beginning of February, New York and Company (one of my most favorite stores ever) started emailing pictures of great Valentine pieces. They had pictures of this beautiful raspberry colored suit in the email. I couldn’t find it online or in stores. I looked at stalked the website everyday until it finally showed up available for purchase.  So I convinced the hubs to go to the mall with me and purchased it after making sure it fit well.

The Hubs told me that the outfit was very LOUD, but that he liked it. I had planned to wear it last week and I was meeting some people for work that I have never met before, so I felt like it might be too much for that occasion. Today though, I was working with people that I have known for a long time, so I felt comfortable trying out head to toe pink with them. I must admit that I got many many compliments on both the suit and the shoes today. I think a big part of the compliments came because while this outfit is very LOUD it is also very professional. It is cut well and made out of a great material.  I am so excited to now try wearing this in different ways. I will have to try both separates and remixing it with something other than black and gray.

Would you be brave enough to wear this bold of a color head to toe in a suit? Would this be office appropriate for your job?

Casual Weekend Wear

My inlaws were in town this weekend. We had a lot of fun relaxing. Friday night we went to dinner near by and just caught up. Saturday we played at the local park with the Bug and then the Hubs and I went on a date without the baby – dinner and a movie. The grandparents watched the baby and loved it! Sunday after church, we went to Co Co Sala for brunch. The chocolate was amazing and i cannot wait to go back with girlfriends. Today I had doctor’s appointments and errands to run after the inlaws left for Ohio.

Here is a roundup of weekend outfits. I wore one other one – but the Bug got it very dirty and not picture worthy.

FRIDAY Night

Sweater – Target, Flannel – Target, Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Shoes – Target

It was a long week and it was nice to change into something very comfortable for dinner at the local diner.

SATURDAY at the Park

Shirt – Old Navy, Sweater – TJ Maxx, Necklace – New York and Company, Gray Tank – Target, Jeans – Old Navy, Socks – Target, Boots – Steve Madden via DSW

This was my park and date night outfit. Pretty casual – but we really just ate dinner at the mall and then went to a movie.

Sunday Brunch

Shirt and Cardi – New York and Company, Jeans – Levis via TJ Maxx, Necklace – gift from MIL, Glasses – Calvin Klein (these are my old glasses… I can’t wait for my new ones to come in), Shoes – Candies via Kohls.

Monday Errands

Tank – Target, Cardi – New York and Company, Jewelry – Target, Jeans – Old Navy, Socks – Target, Boots – Steve Madden via DSW, Belt – New York and Company

I am so excited that the Hubs and I did a little bit of shopping when we were out running errands. I have some BOLD outfits coming this week.

The detail shots are always fun to put together. You may have noticed that some pieces I wore over and over again. That happens on the weekends. I like to remix multiple days in a row. I also think that leopard should be considered a neutral. What do you think?

I also found out that I can make my hair wavy. Naturally my hair is very straight -so to have a little waves is very exciting to me. What do you think? Do you like the waves?

***on a side note – I took all of these pictures this morning due to the fact that we were super busy and my daughter was loving her snack in the highchair***

Find it Friday { Week 1 }

Today I bring you my first Find it Friday!

What is Find it Friday? Well it is when you FIND something in your closet that you haven’t worn in a long time and wear it on FRIDAY. Then you make up your mind if it still should belong in that closet of yours. If you ever want to join me – let me know and if I get enough interest, I will teach myself how to have a link party and link you all in. 🙂

Cardi – New York and Company, Gray Shirt – Target, Skirt – Express, Belt – New York and Company, Tights – Kohls, Shoes – New York and Company, Jewelry – Target

So the item that I FOUND is this skirt. It is a mix of menswear and girly ruffles. I really liked it at the time, but I am not sure {after over 4 years of not wearing it} that the proportions are right for my body. I also feel weird with the ruffles, like they are too girly for me. I also think that it is weird that I would find something to be too girly for me. I mean I LOVE pink, and skirts, and shoes, and girly things in general. I don’t know if it is the combination of the ruffles and pinstripes or just the proportions, but I am not sold on it. I didn’t wear heels today, so that could have contributed to my uncertainty as well.

What do you think? Should it stay or should it find a new home?

I am thinking about keeping the skirt for another month and if I wear it again – it will stay. If I don’t, then off it goes to find another owner that will rock it!

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 10 – Something that Scares You}

WOW! I can’t believe that it is Day 10! Now how am I gonna know what to wear next week?

Hmmmm (I guess that I will have to go over to Kimberly’s blog and use her calendar!)

Anyways – today’s challenge was to wear something that scares you. I don’t have much on the list that I haven’t conquered or tried as far as trends go and those that I do have were not work appropriate {for my job}. I still don’t own any leggings or jeggings. I have done winter shorts – but could use a better pair that feel more winter like. So I went with this, wearing a very bright colored shoe with colored pants – that weren’t the same color.

White Button-Up – New York and Company, White Sweater – Kohls, Watch – New York and Company, Necklace and Earrings – Kohls, Pants – United Colors of Benetton, Shoes – Chinese Laundry via DSW

I love color and I wear pops of color all the time. I don’t think that I have ever popped a color with another rich non-neutral right next to it like this before. I have also never worn white layers like I did with this button-up and sweater. Not a super scary outfit, but it did push my thinking and trying new things.

I have also been wanting to try some red lips, but I didn’t have time to go and pick up some good red lipstick this week, so this is what we got.

What do you think? Would you were these colors together?

Check out my other friends that tried something scary today!

Thanks Kayla for hosting such an awesome challenge! I look forward to more challenges in the future.

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 6 – Decade or Region}

Well I am back with the Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge.  Kayla at Freckles in April is doing such a great job coming up with prompts for this challenge. Today, she challenged us to dress from a decade or region. Can you guess which I picked?

Sweater – Strand via TJ Maxx, Necklace – The Limited, Belt – Fossil via TJ Maxx, Skirt – Express, Watch – DKNY via TJ Maxx, Tights – New York and Company, Shoes – Simply Vera via Kohls

Well I attempted late 50’s early 60’s office fashion. AKA anything that reminded me of Mad Men.  I used these photos {retrieved from google images} as I was putting together my outfit last night.

Joan – I want to be you someday!

Peggy – I love when you kick it up a notch and dress really well!

And then this came from the inspiration post.

Overall, I am pleased with my outfit. I even put my hair up in a bun. Not the best bun, but I tried to be Joan-esque.

I also really liked how the raspberry tights played off of the pink belt.

Come check out the rest of my challenge friends below!

The Winter Edition 10 Day Challenge {Day 5 – Pattern Mixing}

For today’s challenge, we were asked to do some pattern mixing.

I started experimenting with pattern mixing in December of 2009. (How do I remember that exactly?? That is when I had my other blog that I deleted – some people may remember me as from sneakers to stilettos.) I liked today’s challenge though because I have never mixed patterns in this dressed up of an outfit.

Dress & Belt – Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx, Cardi – New York and Company, Tights – Kohls, Shoes – Simply Vera via Kohls, Necklace and Earrings – via Eastern Market

I actually had thought about switching prompts with yesterday but then I thought it would be more of a challenge to keep the prompts the way they were. Also one of my new bosses had this awesome pattern mixing outfit on earlier this week that inspired me for today. She wore a nice black and gray striped shirt under a black leather blazer with the same colored gray and black large print houndstooth pencil skirt. She then wore black tights and pumps. It was such a chic outfit and I thought, that I might be able to pull something off too.

So I went with this new dress. I love the varying stripes of gray, black, and white. I then added these black argyle tights. I knew that I wanted a little something else to add to the mix and added the large flower statement necklace.I decided not to add a pop of color, but keep everything else basic black so that the pattern mixing was the highlight.

Check out my other fellow pattern mixing friends below!

And for fun – Here is my daughter happy that her momma is home from work!
