Today’s prompt was to wear a pattern and the second day that I missed was to wear a hair braid. Again, I combined them to be all caught up!

Braiding my hair was out of my comfort zone. I am just experimenting with this style. I have never really worn braids, even as a young child. I have had short hair most of my life and never really learned how to braid my hair very well. Now that my hair is long, I would actually like to learn how to french braid it, but since I don’t even know how to french braid – I went with a very simple braid.
Last night before picking out what to wear today, I was g-chatting with a friend. We were talking about not knowing what to wear today and that person asked me what were my hunches about what I might want to wear (silly question I know, but it did get me thinking and that was the point!). I replied that I wanted to wear something warm and comfortable yet still stylish and professional. I then went to my closet to try and put together an outfit that met that criteria AND had a pattern in it somewhere.
This sweater was staring at me from my clean laundry basket. The shirt was laying underneath the sweater… instant outfit! I then pulled out four different pairs of pants and decided that these were the best option for the day. While there is nothing super special about the outfit, I love the color combinations and the overall preppy feel. Since I was feeling preppy, I immediately grabbed my fake pearls. Mission =accomplished!
Have you ever created an outfit just because of the way you folded your laundry? I don’t know that I would have thought to put these pieces together otherwise and I love it!
I am really loving the Style Me MarchChallenge. It is giving me some guidelines while making it really easy to also infuse my own style!
Today’s prompt was bold lipstick. Since I was a few days late to this game… I also wanted to catch-up so Day 1 was your favorite color. I was able to do both today! (small victories are important!)

Since I have been experimenting with bold lipstick the last few weeks, I am not sure that this seems as bold as it would have to me a month ago. I do like how the more pink tone of the lipstick pairs with the kelly green pants. I think red would have been too much for me. I also LOVE these pants. Green is my favorite color and this shade of green is FANTASTIC!!! I think that these pants were made just for me!!!
Who else is participating in the Style Me March challenge?
Today’s challenge was to wear something that was purchased on sale. Well, 75% of my closet would be categorized by sale/coupon shopping and then another 22% would fall under very affordable to begin with. The last 3% would be labeled as WORTH IT!
Shirt – New York and Company (BOGO 50% plus 50% off coupon), Jeans – Old Navy – 50%, Necklace – gift from MIL, Earrings – purchased in Maine , Shoes – Target
I am trying to push myself into wearing things that I haven’t worn in the past. I don’t really wear my skinny jeans without boots. I think that I have worn them like this twice (including today). I do this because I am not sure that my body has the right proportions for skinny jeans without boots, plus I am short – so the material bunches at my ankles. I also don’t wear flats very often. I also don’t wear flowy tops with out tucking them in or wearing a structured cardigan or blazer over top. I really liked the vibe of this outfit though.
The Hubs said it wasn’t his favorite outfit… and that is ok. I know that he doesn’t really like skinny jeans or shapeless shirts (as he calls them) so combining them was never going to win him over. 🙂 I really like the simplicity of the colors with the interest coming from my leopard shoes and teal earrings.
Today, we went over to our friends’ house and had brunch. It was great to catch up and hang out. The food/ cocktails were also amazing!
Excited about rocking some bold lipstick tomorrow.
The first thing that I thought about was wearing black and white stripes. I also have been wanting to try to do this to my hair.
I got my hair done today and my bangs are a little shorter than I would like but I still thought that I would be able to pull this off. In the mirror, I thought that I did ok. I am not so sure that it translated well in pictures.

I think that my hair is actually very distracting in these pictures, but I do really like how the pattern mixing turned out. I was staring in my closet for a long time trying to think about what else to pair with the stripes and saw this cardi. I love the large damask and the damask also seems very french to me – so I went with it. I didn’t feel like myself and was a little uncomfortable when I was leaving the house, but I think that really had to do with my hair than with the outfit.
We went to a friend’s house tonight for game night. I was in charge of desserts. This is what I brought!
All CapFabb members were challenged by LBDM to style an item from their spring collection and blog about it. Then submit the blog post to LBDM and the staff will pick a winning look. Well – I couldn’t just pick one look, so I styled three items.
Look 1 is all about the summer. I love the mixing of patterns and textures. I also love the girly-ness of the quote on the shirt with the neutral colors. This is the perfect outfit to wear around Old Town, Alexandria. 🙂
Look 2 is all about mixing dressy with a statement t. I am not really a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, but I could see myself rocking this outfit for a fun date night or game night with friends. The earrings add a lot of interest to this super fun shirt and color palette.
Look 3 is all about me and my daughter kicking it at the park, running errands, and enjoying out time together on the weekends. I love a great sweatshirt and think that the possibilities for mixing patterns and colors with this sweatshirt are endless. Plus, even though I am a midwestern by birth – I am an east coast girl by choice!
What is Find it Friday? Well it is when you FIND something in your closet that you haven’t worn in a long time and wear it on FRIDAY. Then you make up your mind if it still should belong in that closet of yours.
I have two found items on today. Can you figure out which ones are the found items?
Sweater – New York and Company, Tank – New York and Company, Bangles & Watch – New York and Company, Necklace – Express, Pants – The Limited, Shoes – Michael Shannon via Rack Room Shoes
The tank top and the red shoes are my found items. I actually have two pairs of red shoes and haven’t worn either them regularly in several years – especially these shoes. I think that it has been 2 years since I have worn them. I love how these shoes look and what they bring to an outfit. They just aren’t the most comfortable, so I have to be careful about what tasks I am going to be doing the day I am wearing them. I am obsessed with these tank tops. I am continually buying them in different colors and have had this one for over 5 years. I love them as layering pieces. This morning, I realized though that I have not worn this one in over a year. I guess that I need to rock the cobalt blue more often. I originally was going to wear a red tank under my sweater, but after putting it on, realized that the blue conveyed the more sophisticated look that I was going for and that I would still be using the red to pop the outfit with the necklace and shoes.
Please join me today. Comment with a link to your post and I will do a round-up of everyone this weekend.
Loren wore this outfit back when I first found her blog and I was in love. I knew that I had to re-create it. Today was the perfect day to do that. Since I wore BRIGHT pink yesterday, I knew I wanted to tone it down a little today. A girl can only steal the spotlight so many days in a row at work. 😉
So back at the beginning of February, New York and Company (one of my most favorite stores ever) started emailing pictures of great Valentine pieces. They had pictures of this beautiful raspberry colored suit in the email. I couldn’t find it online or in stores. I looked at stalked the website everyday until it finally showed up available for purchase. So I convinced the hubs to go to the mall with me and purchased it after making sure it fit well.

The Hubs told me that the outfit was very LOUD, but that he liked it. I had planned to wear it last week and I was meeting some people for work that I have never met before, so I felt like it might be too much for that occasion. Today though, I was working with people that I have known for a long time, so I felt comfortable trying out head to toe pink with them. I must admit that I got many many compliments on both the suit and the shoes today. I think a big part of the compliments came because while this outfit is very LOUD it is also very professional. It is cut well and made out of a great material. I am so excited to now try wearing this in different ways. I will have to try both separates and remixing it with something other than black and gray.
Would you be brave enough to wear this bold of a color head to toe in a suit? Would this be office appropriate for your job?
